GOAL
Your task is to watch and analyze video of two (2) actual job interviews, and then conduct interviews of your own with those candidates as to how they thought their actual job interview went. Your goal is to gather more knowledge of the job interviewing process. The problem or challenge here will be finding individuals that agree to have their actual job interviews taped, and then also agree to sit down and discuss it with you afterwards. The obstacle to overcome will be finding a large, local company who is currently interviewing candidates, and that will agree to go along with your research.
ROLE
You are an employee for the local University’s Career Center. You have been asked to research the Job Interviewing process in order to provide more guidance to recent college graduates about to start searching for their new careers. Your job is to observe actual job interviews, interview the candidates about their job interviews, and then present your findings to your supervisor at the Career Center.
AUDIENCE
Your clients are candidates whom have just interviewed for an actual job. Your target audience is college seniors and recent college graduates. You need to convince the people you are interviewing that they will be providing tremendous insight to recent college graduates about to follow in their footsteps, and in no way will this affect their chances of getting the job they actually interviewed for. SITUATION
The context you find yourself in is a Career Center employee for the local University assigned to researching what happens in actual job interviews, through the observation of those interviews and the feedback gathered from the actual job candidates. The challenge involves getting people to agree to be taped while they’re being interviewed for a real, personal job. You will create a video tape of your interview with the job candidate as you both look back at the footage of their actual job interview in order to highlight their strengths and find ways to build upon their weaknesses. You will need to develop a good list of questions to ask each candidate so that your findings will be in depth for the people coming into the Career Center. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Your performance needs to provide your supervisor with a detailed account of what an actual job interview is like. The video of you interviewing the candidates needs to highlight the differences between a good interview and a bad interview. You will need to identify both the strengths and weaknesses in the actual job interviews. You will also need to ask the candidate as to how they thought things went, how it could have been better, what surprised them, what they would have changed, etc. Your work will be judged by a rubric given to you at the beginning of this task. Your product must meet the following standards: Your report must provide genuine advice to local University students coming through the Career Center seeking help as they conduct job searches of their own.
